Why Horseshoe Mountain Kennel?

Colorado is a special place for our family. Prior to moving to Colorado, we spent much time there camping, hiking, backpacking, and enjoying the beauty God created. It was on one such trip that Christine, Bennett, Maggie, and I climbed Horseshoe Mountain, elevation 13,904 feet. It was there at the peak of Horseshoe Mountain that I proposed to Christine...she said, "Yes!" So, Horseshoe Mountain is a very special place for us!

So, when we decided to start our company we combined two of the things we loved...pooches and the mountains, and "Horseshoe Mountain Kennel" was born.

Why Border Collies and Fox Red Labs?

Dogs have been a part of my life since I was 5 years old. I can't imagine life without these faithful four-legged companions. I adopted my first Border Collie, "Maggie", in 2012. She set a bar that is really high. She was a mountain climber, backpacker, swimmer, frisbee extraordinaire, and companion through good and bad. Unfortunately, cancer took her 10 years later, but her legacy lives on through those who come after her.

Unlike me, Christine never had a dog as a child, so it wasn't until she was an adult did she venture into the world of "canine companionship." She adopted from a shelter a sweet two-year old black lab named "Molly." Through this sweet gentle girl Christine learned the unconditional love and devotion that having a dog can bring. Molly also loved to hike and fetch, and watch out when she got the "zoomies!" Like Maggie, we lost Molly to cancer when she was 10 years old, but she still lives on in our hearts and memories.

So this is how we came to love and live with the unusual combination of Borders Collies and Labradors!

Thank you for visiting, please come again soon!
